Western Edge Theatre will be back in the Nanaimo Entertainment Centre (46 Nicol St.) for its 2009-10 season. "The NEC was a big hit with both our audiences and artists last season," says Western Edge artistic producer Frank Moher. "It's comfortable and has a great vibe. By opening it up to us and other groups, at extremely reasonable rates, Paul Manhas [NEC owner] has made another major contribution to downtown."
Western Edge also now handles third-party bookings at the NEC. "So far it's been used for a Nanaimo Conservatory of Music event, and will host an all-ages rock show in October," says Moher. "In combination with Nanaimo Centre Stage, the smaller performance space right next door, it's provided a significant boost to Nanaimo's performing arts community."
"The NEC is an excellent alternative for productions that, for whatever reason, don't suit Nanaimo Centre Stage, but also don't need the 800 seats at The Port."
The first Fall event at the Nanaimo Entertainment Centre is Western Edge's sneak preview of its 2009-10 season, on October 9th at 7:30 pm. Admission is free. The company's first production of the season is the comedy "Matt and Ben."
The Nanaimo Entertainment Centre may be booked by calling Western Edge at 250-668-0991, or by e-mail at admin@westernedge.org.
