The Cemetery Club
By Ivan Menchell

*Directed by Mort Paul and produced by Ladysmith’s Little Theatre

“A joyful rendition that will make you laugh a little, smile a little, even sigh a little as three widowed friends explore until death do us part.”

The Cemetery Club directed by Mort Paul for Ladysmith’s Little Theatre on Vancouver Island invites the audience to be a part of the laughs, sorrows and confusion that three widowed friends experience with life when the marriage hasn’t really ended. The play explores an event that has the three widowed women questioning their lives and what is expected after “until death do we part.”

The Cemetery Club performed by Joanne MacIntosh as the saucy “Lucille”, Bonnie Stebbings as “Ida”, Terry Whitaker as “Sam”, Judi Whittaker as “Mildred” and Ellen Paul’s witty rendition of “Doris”, is the winner of 6 awards including the “The Best Overall Production” and “Best Director” in the South Island Zone Festival 2009.

Ladysmith Little Theatre is cabaret style seating in an old schoolhouse turned into a theatre bringing audiences professional quality live shows to the central island. What it does not have in expensive theatre building, accommodation and equipment, it makes up for with the creativity, camaraderie and enthusiasm that spills over to the performances of the cast, crew & director. The award winning director, Mort Paul has dedicated many hours directing and acting his way across Canada from the East coast (Toronto) to the West coast. He is involved with Yellowpoint Drama Club, Ladysmith Little Theatre and a few others as he performs and directs up and down Vancouver Island.

Sit back and laugh a little, smile a little, even sigh a little, as the witty comments of “Doris” played by Ellen Paul; a Shakespearian trained, and Teacher of the Performing Arts, connects the other actors together while “Lucille” eloquently played by Joanne MacIntosh keeps us chuckling with her brassy behavior.

If you have missed the performance of The Cemetery Club produced by Ladysmith’s Little Theatre, they will be performing again July 4, 2009 at Mainstage Competition in Maple Ridge, BC. Please check the Theatre BC website at: http://www.theatrebc.org/Mainstage/ for show times and dates of all the live performances to BC’s best. Break a Leg People
