Western Edge Theatre

Nanaimo's professional theatre with a community feel

So... to update those who are in the slightest interested... 6 days until we open. I am excited! (And nervous).

To add to this melange of emotion, I've got a sore throat, so I am takin' 'er easy for a few (days? hours?), just to keep on the safe side.

I think the show is going to be really good (though I find it hard to emphasize the wonderfulness of a project that I have such a large part in...) So, I am as enthusiastic as possible without appearing to relish the whole "One Woman Show" aspect of things.

Hmmm... At the risk of seeming somewhat Rachel-ish, this post is rapidly becoming a list-like configuration. She does love her lists. The OCD part of me appreciates that, though, to be honest, the OCD part of me doesn't extend much past the order I eat Smarties in.

Oh dear. I've gone off topic (was I ever on topic?). Back to the sick bed, the pile of reading and the mud-bath of self pity.

See you this weekend, or next... Maybe both?

xoxo

Hey, hey Portia.
Just gotta tell you how much the show blew me away last night. Luckily I was smart and did a preemptive strike on the Kleenex box before the show, cuz I was dabbing and sniffing my way through most of act two. Thankfully there is a respite with the Dairy Queen scene cuz I would have been doing' the ugly cry and would have been boo hooing my way through the whole act!
Your performance was outstanding girl! Like I said last night, or I should say afternoon (Sunday the 5th) but like I said you should be congratulated on the outstanding job you did at giving Rachael a chance to be heard again. You brought her back to speak to us and not once did I see you or hear you, I only saw and heard Rachael.... and by you doing so I now know her. Thank you.
In a bittersweet kind of way I am glad I got to know her a bit, but now I know her I am deeply saddened that her life did not continue, as I believe she was destined for great things. But her voice continues and one might say that her destiny may have been this.... and her death was her life's work. She is as powerful and thought-provoking as any great leader or activist. I wonder if she ever thought her words.... just words to those she loved..... would have the impact they have on us, her readers, her listeners, her audience..... and ultimately those of us who stand changed forever by her words.
Once again Portia, the greatest compliment I can give you is that I did not see you on stage, I saw Rachael in her life.
Take care and thanks again.
