So what do you get when you take a new script; community actors; professional actors; professional lighting and set design; a film school graduate doing sound and a stage manager that has arts, theatre and business background (that's me)? Well......

Meldy lives on the West Coast of Canada and is a published writer, artist, singer, actor and has written poetry, short stories, scripts and articles for magazines. She has been influenced by many writers and poets, theatre people etc.

Some of the people that influenced me: Frank Moher (God help me!) that was my script writing instructor and Jack Hodgins, (oh, oh) that was my creative writing instructor. Many other influence including Anne Cameron, who once told me as a wide eyed teenager, "if you are a writer there is no getting away from it, just write", making it sound quite ominous to my then influential mind; Tom Waits whom I met through creative writing and Leonard Cohen whom I have not. I have used my education and experience in visual arts, writing, singing and business to contribute to theatre groups and entertainment up and down the west coast for over 25 years.

I have returned to working in theatre on Vancouver Island after a few years of a hiatus; my first introduction back being a Set Dresser and Assistant Stage Manager and construction for the play "Nurse Jane Goes to Hawaii". I then was honored to work with a fabulous professional group of crew and cast working as Stage Manager for Western Edge Theatre Group's, premier of "The Engineers". Currently I am Stage Manager/Director under "Wilton-Broad Players" with an entry into ECHO Players One Act Play Festival that runs November 6,7 & 8, at Village Theatre. Our entry,"Parlour Games" script by Brian March, who also will premier his play "Fireweed" with Western Edge Theatre in January 2010, is a comedic look at relationship games couples play with each other.

I look forward to the exciting movement of theatre happening on the West Coast and Vancouver Island. I invite my friends and collegues to come out and see one of the live theatre and entertainment performances happening on the Vancouver Island and the West Coast. There's no telling what can happen when performance is live!
Break a leg people

Works in Progress: film acting appearance; series of one act plays to be performed 2010; writing collection "Wilton Short Stories"; writing a theatre script; writing a movie "mystery" script, "The Pigeon Races";parental duties continue as I pretend I am in charge.

ECHO Players One Act Play Festival Nov 6,7 & 8, "Parlour Games" script by Brian March

The Wilton-Broad Players entry "Parlour Games", script by Brian March, entered the One Act Festival in Qualicum and along with the fun hours of rehearsals and laughs, received The Best Director Award - Meldy Wilton; Best Actress Award, Evelyn Applin & Best Over all Play Award. The Adjudicator Eliza Gardiner mentioned how difficult it was to choose best actors, specially when our group had an equally talented cast with well rounded actors. Many Thanks to Karrie Ennis as Dana, Richard Broad as… Continue

By permission of Dramatists Play Service

"What do you do when you're not sure?" The principal of a convent school experiences dire conflict when situations arise with a young priest. More than what may be his progressive ideas weigh on sister Aloysius's mind as she waives protocol and locks horns with Father Flynn.

Sheila Bowman, as director, could not have cast the play more accurately as Eric Holmgren’s brilliantly… Continue

“She is an innocent. She is a slate that has not been touched, except by God.”

I had the opportunity to see Agnes of God, written by John Pielmeier, and as has been said before, a moving psychological thriller, definitely was delivered in tight and believable performances by Lorna McLellan (as Mother Superior); Wendy Wearne (as Dr Livingstone) and Whitney Benson ( as Agnes).

Having said tha… Continue
